COPERNI LANCE UN NOUVEAU SAC À MAIN FAIT D'AIR

Avant-première

Key Insights

  • From robot dogs to mirrored minis and white lace dresses adorned with 3-D printed flowers, Coperni has consistently pushed the boundaries.

  • Coperni has launched an aerogel swipe bag that weighs only 33 grams and is made of 99% air and 1% glass. The material used to make the bag is NASA’s nano material silica aerogel, the lightest solid on planet Earth.

Coperni is no stranger to the realm of viral innovation. Towards the end of the brand’s 2023 Paris show, Bella Hadid, semi nude, slowly walked to the center of the runway while scientists sprayed her with a substance reminiscent of silly string, transforming into a white dress with a thigh-high slit. From robot dogs to mirrored minis and white lace dresses adorned with 3-D printed flowers, Coperni has consistently pushed the boundaries. Their latest addition? A bag crafted from air, supported by NASA technology.

For their Fall 2024 ready-to-wear lineup, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, alongside the expertise of researcher and professor Ioannis Michalou, unveiled the Aerogel Air Swipe Bag—a marvel that seems to defy the very principles of material science. This extraordinary piece raises the question: Is it really possible to create a bag out of... air? Dubbed "blue smoke" or "solid smoke," Aerogel is a marvel of engineering; a silicon-based solid that boasts a sponge-like, porous structure. Over 99 percent of its volume is nothing but air, rendering it a thousand times less dense than glass.

The creation of Aerogel involves a high-temperature process and the critical-point drying of a gel, which is made up of colloidal silica structures imbued with solvents. The resulting material, with its cloud-like appearance, has been fashioned into the largest item ever made from this nanomaterial. It represents not just a significant advancement in fashion, but a leap for innovation at the intersection of science and style.

This development might seem bewildering at first glance, yet it perfectly complements the celestial theme of the collection. The lineup is a nod to interstellar exploration, featuring classic outerwear, star-shaped stilettos, ethereal second-skin jersey dresses, UFO-inspired heels, and models presenting a futuristic vision devoid of eyebrows. Like the pioneering spirit of NASA, this collection is firmly focused on the frontier of tomorrow, ushering in an era where fashion reaches beyond the confines of Earth and into the cosmos.
